Privacy policy
Last updated: October 23, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Barney Bed (the "Site", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and discloses your personal information when you visit, use our services, or make a purchase from barneybed.com (the "Site") or otherwise communicate with us regarding the Site (collectively, the "Services"). For purposes of this Privacy Policy, "you" and "your" means you as the user of the Services, whether you are a customer, website visitor, or another individual whose information we have collected pursuant to this Privacy Policy.
Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using and accessing any of the Services, you agree to the collection, use, and disclosure of your information as described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to this Privacy Policy, please do not use or access any of the Services.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, including to reflect changes to our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will post the revised Privacy Policy on the Site, update the "Last updated" date and take any other steps required by applicable law.
Our Website and Tracking Technologies
When you visit barneybed.com, we and our service providers collect information automatically, whether or not you buy anything:
• your IP address;
• the time zone your device is set to, which tells us which country you are probably in;
• your browser, device type, operating system and screen size;
• the pages you visit, the products you view, search for and add to your cart, and when;
• how you arrived: the website, search engine, ad, email or link that brought you, including campaign codes; and
• a random ID we store in a cookie, so we can recognize your browser when you come back.
We use this information to run the Site and your cart, keep the Site secure, understand how it is used so we can fix problems and improve it, measure our advertising, and show you relevant ads. You enter payment details on Shopify's checkout, not on our pages.
These technologies are on when you arrive. You can turn them off at any time with the "Your Privacy Choices" link at the bottom of every page, and we honor Global Privacy Control (see "Your Privacy Choices and Global Privacy Control").
Our Own Website Analytics
We run our own website analytics on our own servers.
• Visitor ID. On your first visit we store a random ID in a cookie on your browser. Each later visit adds to that browser's record: when you visited, the pages and products you viewed, your searches, what you added to your cart, whether you went to checkout, and how you first arrived.
• IP address. We keep the full IP address of the most recent visit from each browser.
• Device fingerprint. Your browser also sends us a "fingerprint": a hashed summary of its settings, such as screen size, time zone, languages, hardware and how it draws a test image. Together with your network, we use it to tell when visits from different browsers are probably the same person.
• How you use our pages. To find where the Site is confusing or broken, we also collect how you use each page: the pages you view, clicks and taps, scrolling, mouse movements, window size, what you add to your cart and any page errors, with how each page looked at the time, so our staff can go through a visit step by step. What you type is hidden, except words typed into our site search box; passwords are always hidden. Shopify's checkout is not included. This detail is linked to your visitor ID, stored encrypted with our hosting providers, not sold or shared, and deleted after 90 days; a short summary of each visit (when, how long, the pages, country and device) is kept for 25 months. We don't collect it if you turn off Analytics under "Your Privacy Choices", or if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal (which stops this detail only: the rest of our analytics in this section runs until you turn off Analytics).
• Our tracking links. Some of our ads, emails, text messages, printed materials and QR codes use our own tracking links. When you follow one, we record the click against your visitor record.
• Orders. When you go to checkout, we add your visitor ID and any tracking link's code to your cart as hidden information. When you place the order, we link it to your visits and to the ad or link that brought you.
• Automated programs. We keep separate records of automated programs, such as search engine crawlers, including their full IP addresses.
Only authorized Barney Bed staff can see this information, in our private admin. We do not sell it, give it to advertising partners, or write IP addresses into our server logs. If you turn off Analytics under "Your Privacy Choices", we delete the visitor cookie and stop linking your visits together. We still count page views without any ID or IP address.
Advertising and Measurement Partners
• Google (Google Analytics, Google Ads and Google Merchant Center). Google's tag runs on our pages and receives the pages you visit, the products you view, search for and add to your cart, your IP address, and Google's own cookie identifiers.
• Meta (Facebook and Instagram). Meta's pixel runs on our pages, and our server also sends the same events to Meta directly (Meta's "Conversions API"). Meta receives your page views, product views, searches and add-to-carts, the page address, your IP address and browser details, Meta's cookie identifiers, and a hashed form of our visitor ID. We never send your name, email address or phone number to Meta from our pages.
• Excede. Our server sends your page views, product views, searches, cart activity and checkout starts to Excede's customer data system, with your IP address, browser details, language, the page address and title, and our visitor ID.
• Shopify. Our store runs on Shopify. Our server passes your IP address to Shopify with each cart request, as Shopify requires to prevent misuse. Checkout is Shopify's, and Shopify's privacy policy applies there.
• At checkout. Shopify's Google and Meta apps send your purchase to Google and Meta, including your email address, phone number, name and address in hashed form, to match the sale to an ad. TikTok's and Pinterest's apps also run on our checkout.
• Campaign details on your order. When you go to checkout, we add the details of the ad or link that brought you (click codes from Google, Meta, TikTok, Pinterest or X, campaign tags and your landing page) and your Google and Meta cookie identifiers to your cart, so they are kept with your order in Shopify.
• YouTube. Videos load only when you press play, in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode. The preview image comes from YouTube's servers, which receive your IP address.
To tell which country you are probably in, the Site reads the time zone your device reports and keeps it in a cookie (bb_tz) that holds the time zone and nothing else. We use it to apply the right privacy rules for your region, offer you our store for your region and show delivery prices. We do not use your IP address to work out where you are, and no outside service is involved.
Your Privacy Choices and Global Privacy Control
Your Privacy Choices. Every page of the Site has a "Your Privacy Choices" link at the bottom. There you can turn off:
• Analytics: our own website analytics (including how you use our pages), Excede, and Google Analytics' cookies; and
• Advertising: Meta's pixel and our server's events to Meta, and Google's advertising cookies and ad personalization. Turning off Advertising opts you out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising on that browser.
Your choice takes effect immediately, lasts a year on that browser, and is passed to our checkout. Your cart and checkout work either way. Because it is stored on your device, you will need to make it again on each browser or device, or after clearing cookies.
Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for that browser. Meta then receives data only under its "Limited Data Use" setting, Google under "restricted data processing", we do not collect the detail of how you use our pages, and Shopify applies the signal at checkout. The signal does not stop the rest of our own analytics (your visitor ID, IP address and device fingerprint, U2) or the Google and Meta tags themselves; turn off Analytics and Advertising under "Your Privacy Choices" for that.
Do Not Track. Our Site does not respond to "Do Not Track" signals; it does honor Global Privacy Control.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser, use the opt-out tools of Google (adssettings.google.com) and Meta (Meta's ad preferences), and unsubscribe from our emails using the link in each email.
How We Collect and Use Your Personal Information
To provide the Services, we collect and have collected over the past 12 months personal information about you from a variety of sources, as set out below. The information that we collect and use varies depending on how you interact with us.
In addition to the specific uses set out below, we may use information we collect about you to communicate with you, provide or improve the Services, comply with any applicable legal obligations, enforce any applicable terms of service, and to protect or defend the Services, our rights, and the rights of our users or others.

The types of personal information we obtain about you depends on how you interact with our Site and use our Services. When we use the term "personal information", we are referring to information that identifies, relates to, describes or can be associated with you. The following sections describe the categories and specific types of personal information we collect.
Information We Collect Directly from You

Information We Collect Automatically
We may also automatically collect certain information about your interaction with the Services ("Usage Data"). To do this, we may use cookies, pixels and similar technologies ("Cookies"). Usage Data may include information about how you access and use our Site and your account, including device information, browser information, information about your network connection, your IP address and other information regarding your interaction with the Services.
The information we collect automatically, how we use it and your choices are described under "Our Website and Tracking Technologies", "Our Own Website Analytics", "Advertising and Measurement Partners" and "Your Privacy Choices and Global Privacy Control".
Information We Obtain from Third Parties
Finally, we may obtain information about you from third parties, including from vendors and service providers who may collect information on our behalf, such as:
• Companies who support our Site and Services, such as Shopify.
• Our payment processors, who collect payment information (e.g., bank account, credit or debit card information, billing address) to process your payment in order to fulfill your orders and provide you with products or services you have requested, in order to perform our contract with you.

Any information we obtain from third parties will be treated in accordance with this Privacy Policy. Also see the section below, Third Party Websites and Links.
How We Use Your Personal Information
Providing Products and Services: We use your personal information to provide you with the Services in order to perform our contract with you, including to process your payments, fulfill your orders, to send notifications to you related to your account, purchases, returns, exchanges or other transactions, to create, maintain and otherwise manage your account, to arrange for shipping, facilitate any returns and exchanges and other features and functionalities related to your account.
We may also enhance your shopping experience by enabling Shopify to match your account with other Shopify services that you may choose to use. In this case, Shopify will process your information as set forth in its Privacy Policy and Consumer Privacy Policy.
Marketing and Advertising: We may use your personal information for our own marketing and promotional purposes, such as to send marketing, advertising and promotional communications by email, text message or postal mail, and to show you advertisements for products or services. This may include using your personal information to better tailor the Services and advertising on our Site.
Security and Fraud Prevention: We use your personal information to detect, investigate or take action regarding possible fraudulent, illegal or malicious activity. If you choose to use the Services and register an account, you are responsible for keeping your account credentials safe. We highly recommend that you do not share your username, password, or other access details with anyone else. If you believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately.
Communicating with You and Customer Support: We use your personal information to provide you with customer support and improve our Services. This is in our legitimate interests in order to be responsive to you, to provide effective services to you, and to maintain our business relationship with you.
Analytics and Site Improvement: We use information about how you use the Site to understand how it is used, find and fix problems, improve it, and learn which ads and links bring customers to our store.
Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies, such as your browser's local storage. Some are needed for the Site to work and are always used: your cart (bb_cart, bb_cart_session, bb_discount, bb_ship_to, bb_has_cart; 30 days, or until you close your browser for bb_ship_to), your device's time zone (bb_tz; 1 year), so we can apply the privacy rules for your region, show delivery prices and offer you the right store, and your privacy choices (bb_consent; 1 year). The rest are used only while Analytics or Advertising is on under "Your Privacy Choices": our visitor ID (bb_vid; up to 400 days after your last visit), campaign details (bb_attr; 90 days), Google Analytics (_ga, _ga_; Google sets how long, up to 2 years), Google Ads (_gcl_; 90 days) and Meta (_fbp, _fbc; 90 days). When you save a choice, Shopify also records it in its _tracking_consent cookie so our checkout follows it. Our analytics also keep a few markers in your browser's storage: bb_fp, bb_rec_tab and bb_rec_may until you close the tab, and bb_rec_visit, which holds the current visit's ID and time. For Shopify's own cookies, see https://www.shopify.com/legal/cookies.
Most browsers accept cookies by default, but you can set your browser to remove or reject them. Blocking cookies may stop some features of the Site from working.
How We Disclose Personal Information
We do not sell your personal information for money. However, we allow Google and Meta to collect information about your use of the Site through their tags, and we send some of it to Meta from our servers, so they can measure our ads and show you personalized ads. Under California and other state privacy laws, this may be a "sale" of personal information or "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising. You can opt out at any time under "Your Privacy Choices", or with Global Privacy Control. We do not share your contact information with third parties for their own marketing.
Your personal information will only be shared in the following limited circumstances:
Service Providers: We may disclose your personal information to trusted subcontractors, vendors, and service providers who perform services on our behalf, including IT management, payment processing, data analytics, customer support, cloud storage, fulfillment and shipping. They include Shopify (our store and checkout), Excede (customer data), Fly.io, Neon and Cloudflare (hosting, database and storage). These service providers are contractually required to:
• Use your information solely to fulfill the services we provide to you
• Implement appropriate security measures to protect your information
• Not use your information for their own marketing or promotional purposes
• Limit data retention to only what is necessary for service delivery
With Your Consent: When you direct, request us or otherwise consent to our disclosure of certain information to third parties, such as to ship you products or through your use of social media widgets or login integrations.
Business Transfers or Legal Obligations: In connection with a business transaction such as a merger or bankruptcy, to comply with any applicable legal obligations (including to respond to subpoenas, search warrants and similar requests), to enforce any applicable terms of service, and to protect or defend the Services, our rights, and the rights of our users or others.
Shopify: We use Shopify to support our e-commerce platform. When you make a purchase or interact with certain features, Shopify processes your information as set forth in its Privacy Policy and Consumer Privacy Policy solely to provide the services you have requested.
Categories of Personal Information Disclosed
In the past 12 months we have disclosed these categories of personal information:

Marketing Communications
We will only send you marketing communications if you have explicitly opted in to receive them. You can opt out of marketing communications at any time through unsubscribe links in our emails or by contacting us. Opting out of marketing communications will not affect transactional communications related to your orders or account.

User Generated Content
The Services may enable you to post product reviews and other user-generated content. If you choose to submit user generated content to any public area of the Services, this content will be public and accessible by anyone.

Our Site may provide links to websites or other online platforms operated by third parties. If you follow links to sites not affiliated or controlled by us, you should review their privacy and security policies and other terms and conditions. We do not guarantee and are not responsible for the privacy or security of such sites, including the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of information found on these sites. Information you provide on public or semi-public venues, including information you share on third-party social networking platforms may also be viewable by other users of the Services and/or users of those third-party platforms without limitation as to its use by us or by a third party. Our inclusion of such links does not, by itself, imply any endorsement of the content on such platforms or of their owners or operators, except as disclosed on the Services.
Children's Data
The Services are not intended to be used by children, and we do not knowingly collect any personal information about children. If you are the parent or guardian of a child who has provided us with their personal information, you may contact us using the contact details set out below to request that it be deleted.
As of the Effective Date of this Privacy Policy, we do not have actual knowledge that we "share" or "sell" (as those terms are defined in applicable law) personal information of individuals under 16 years of age.
Security and Retention of Your Information
Please be aware that no security measures are perfect or impenetrable, and we cannot guarantee "perfect security." In addition, any information you send to us may not be secure while in transit. We recommend that you do not use insecure channels to communicate sensitive or confidential information to us.
We keep information collected on our website as follows:
• Visitor records (Identifiers, Internet Activity, Commercial Information): 25 months after your last visit, then only as daily totals that do not identify anyone.
• IP addresses: the most recent one for each browser, deleted once that browser has not visited for 180 days. Until the visitor record is deleted, a keyed hash of the address and its network remains, used only to recognize repeat visits.
• Detail of how you use our pages (pages viewed, clicks and taps, scrolling, mouse movements, window size, cart actions, page errors, how each page looked, and the words typed into our site search box): 90 days; a short summary of each visit: 25 months.
• Records of automated programs, including IP addresses: 90 days.
• Events waiting to be sent to Meta and Excede: deleted on delivery, at most 7 days.
• Newsletter sign-ups: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
• Orders, account and customer service information: as long as we need it to provide the Services, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes and enforce our agreements.
